Abbas to visit France as PA expresses optimism over UN bid

PA foreign minister says Abbas will meet with Sarkozy because France is a permanent UNSC member, AFP reports; Shaath: We have the backing of nine Security Council members.

As Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu expressed willingness to sit down with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas at any time, the PA announced that it would continue its tour of UNSC-member countries, with Abbas reportedly headed to France following his visit in Colombia.
Abbas will meet French President Nicolas Sarkozy in Paris this week to discuss the Palestinian bid for statehood recognition at the UN, PA Foreign Minister Riad al-Malki said on Tuesday according to AFP ….
