Kriegsroman:

Daesh(i):

Papst Franziskus in Auschwitz:

„Herr, vergib so viel Grausamkeit“

Coalition stability threatened as Likud-Bayit Yehudi clash over new IBA

Political turmoil struck Benjamin Netanyahu’s government Monday morning as coalition member Bayit Yehudi issued a scathing rebuke of the prime minister over his continued intervention in the establishment of a new public broadcasting authority. On Sunday, government ministers knocked heads at the weekly cabinet meeting as Likud ministers argued for more government control and oversight over the “Ta’agid”, the Hebrew name for the new authority originally slated to begin operations at the end of the year. Some Likud ministers like Miri Regev argued that the government should be able to control the broadcasting authority while others like Ofer Akunis said that appointments to the new authority needed to be approved by the prime minister….

Verhaftungen:

IDF nabs 10 Palestinians suspected of aiding terrorist who murdered Rabbi Mark

IDF units raided the West Bank town of Dura overnight between Sunday and Monday, arresting 10 people suspected of abetting 29-year-old Muhammad Fakia, who shot dead Rabbi Michael Mark in a terrorist drive-by on July 1. Those arrested include Fakia’s relatives. Fakia was shot dead in a heavy exchange of fire with security forces in Tzurif, near Hebron, last week. During that raid, Fakia, armed with a Kalashnikov rifle, opened fire on IDF units that raided his hideout, and soldiers returned fire using anti-tank missiles, before bulldozing the building in which had barricaded himself. Fakia was the gunman who fired from a moving vehicle on Rabbi Mark’s vehicle on Route 60, killing him and injuring Mark’s wife and two children….

IDF artillery undergoes rapid changes in face of hybrid foes

A newly established IDF artillery brigade recently held a large-scale war drill to prepare for a potential clash with Hamas in Gaza, but the live-fire training involved far more than shells. During the drill, the brigade, dubbed Flame of Fire – a part of the Sinai Division – also fired precision-guided Spear (Romach) rockets, produced by Israel Military Industries, which are surface-to-surface, GPS-guided weapons. The brigade operated radars that can detect the source of enemy rocket fire and enable rapid return fire and deployed additional measures that remain classified….

Abd al-Mujib al-Hakim, a member of the Saudi Arabian delegation that recently visited Israel and the Palestinian territories, told BBC Arabic on Friday that he believes Israeli society wants peace.  “In Arab societies, the picture of Israeli society is that it embraces a culture of death, wants to spill blood, and does not believe in peace. That [picture] is not correct.” He continued, “The Israeli society that I encountered embraces a culture of peace, has accomplishments it wants to (protect), wants coexistence, and wants peace.”….

Sparks fly between Netanyahu, Bennett over Gaza war report

PM Benjamin Netanyahu categorically denied on Sunday that he had an interest in “burying” the upcoming State Comptroller’s report on Operation Protective Edge, saying his interest was that the “truth” emerge about how the security cabinet prepared for the 2014 conflict. In recent days, Netanyahu has come under sharp criticism from Education Minister Naftali Bennett (Bayit Yehudi) and former finance minister Yair Lapid (Yesh Atid) for not holding in-depth discussions and preparing adequately for the Hamas attack tunnels that emerged as a deadly threat during the war. All three men were members of the security cabinet in 2014. In a two-and-a-half-hour briefing with diplomatic reporters in his office on Sunday, Netanyahu – in off-the-record remarks – did his best to debunk these claims….

Von Mexiko bis zum Kibbutz:

Teens retrace pioneers’ footsteps

„Go and help them make the tehina, they don’t know how,” a couple of Israeli teens are instructed atop the desert lookout point on which they are making dinner together with a large group of teenagers from Mexico City. It is rather surreal: sixty five 15 to 16 year olds transplanted from the bustling Mexican capital to the remote southern kibbutz of Gvulot. But a quick tour around the kibbutz reveals that the connection is not as tenuous as it may seem; there is already a piece of Mexico standing brightly in the heart of the community – the Mexico House guest rooms….

Fifty-four years ago, Françis Kalifat, a Jewish boy born and raised in the sprawling western Algerian port city of Oran, fled his home, as the Muslim North African territory gained its independence from France in an apocalyptic finale to 132 years of French rule. “I was 10 years old, and my mother and I hurriedly left for France a few days before independence,“ Kalifat recalls to The Jerusalem Report. „My father was a policeman, and he had to remain there for several months during which he saw horrors such as bodies hung from butchers’ hooks. Atrocities were committed on all sides.”….

Does Nasrallah have a reason to fear strengthening Israeli-Saudi ties?

Hezbollah Secretary-General  Hassan Nasrallah does indeed have reason to worry about signs of strengthening ties between Israel and Saudi Arabia. He expressed his fears on Thursday in a speech in which he condemned the Kingdom for normalizing relations with Israel, and doing so „for free.“ And indeed, there is more than a hunch in the Middle East that Jerusalem and Riyadh have begun to grow closer. The warming of relations is interesting on the surface, but it is even more important beneath the surface. Prince Turki bin Faisal, who served as Saudi Arabia’s intelligence chief from 1979 to 2001, has appeared publicly on a number of occasions with Israeli military officials and with other Israeli figures at international forums….

The stage was packed with multifaceted musicians and lead singers who doubled as trumpet or tambourine players. Among the two drummers was Santana’s wife, Cindy Blackman, who beamed on stage during multiple solos featuring fast-paced, energized beats that made onlookers cheer with excitement.
