Carmel fire victims plan to sue state over lack of compensation

Five months after the disaster that took 44 lives, the government has still not provided financial aid to those who lost property.

In the five months since the Carmel fire killed 44 people and destroyed many homes in the area, the cabinet has failed to provide any of the compensation it promised to families who lost homes. The angry people of Kibbutz Beit Oren and Ein Hod are now planning to sue the state for the incompetence that they say has left them homeless.
"I want no delays, no bureaucracy, I want shortened processes, fast solutions. I want all the people to be able to return home in a few days," Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said at the cabinet session on December 5, 2010, three days after the blaze had broken out….
