Mortality rate for premature infants up, as hospitals allowed to allocate money elsewhere.
Mortality rates for premature babies in Israel have been on the rise, according to the Israel Neonatal Society. According to a report the organization issued in April of this year, in 2009, the death rate for premature babies in Israel jumped by 21% over the prior year, with 303 deaths compared to 250 in 2008.
The worrying trend reversed declining mortality rates before 2009. While the state provides hospitals major funding for every premature baby care born at the country's hospitals, it reportedly does not require the hospitals to use it for their care….
