Bugaboo baby carriages cost 38% more in Israel than in Florida, and 5% more than in Britain, but the price gaps don't tell the whole story.
Every year 160,000 babies are born in Israel, fueling an NIS 1.5-billion a year industry of baby products. Some 90% of that sum originates in imported goods, according to observers. The market for baby carriages alone is estimated at NIS 80 million a year.
In the niche of "premium" baby carriages, which is 10% to 15% of the carriages market, Bugaboo has a 50% market share. The company says the price in Israel is generally the same as elsewhere, and is calculated in euros. Yet once the difference in pay is factored in, the price isn't the same at all….
