Israel can’t afford its fantasy defense systems
A ballistic-missile expert thinks Israel should supplement the Iron Dome anti-rocket system.
Responding to the euphoria stirred by the Iron Dome system's interception of Grad rockets fired from Gaza, Dr. Nathan Farber wants to return the public discussion, which drifted into demagogy and personal attacks, back to rational scientific and economic dimensions. Farber, once a ballistic-missile expert at Israel Military Industries and a lecturer at the Technion's aerodynamics faculty, lavishes praise on the Iron Dome system, which intercepted eight of nine missiles fired at Ashkelon and Be'er Sheva.
"It was proved that the system is capable of intercepting Grad rockets fired from ranges of 20 to 40 kilometers. This is a technological success, and praise is due to everyone who contributed," Farber says….
