Israel welfare services on hold as social workers strike
Social workers are demanding improved working conditions and the inclusion of privately employed social workers in the collective bargaining agreement; the strike follows a breakdown in talks to improve working conditions.
Most of the country's welfare services will be suspended indefinitely starting Sunday morning after negotiations between representatives of social workers and the Finance Ministry broke down on Friday.
Social workers are demanding improved working conditions, including a wage hike of 35 percent to 40 percent, and the inclusion of privately employed social workers in the collective bargaining agreement negotiated by the union representing state-employed social workers….
