After over five years, families of his fallen comrades – platoon and tank commander 1st Lt. Hanan Barak and Staff Sgt. Pavel Slutzker – gripped by emotion to see Gilad back with his family.
Gilad Shalit's return home yesterday also offered some closure for the families of the soldiers who perished in the border incident when Shalit was abducted. After more than five years, when every mention of Shalit reopened the wounds, the families of his fallen comrades – platoon and tank commander 1st Lt. Hanan Barak and Staff Sgt. Pavel Slutzker – were gripped by emotion to finally see Gilad back with his family.
"It's a sense of relief. The way I feel it, in some way, that tank's mission – that began five and half years ago – was finally completed," says Atara Barak Shram, Hanan Barak's sister. "Of course I feel both joy and pain, but there's also a feeling of completion and acceptance that it's over; Hanan got his soldier back home….
