Netanyahu faces mounting pressure, both at home and abroad
PM leaves Bibi-Tours saga for trip to Berlin, but may face unfriendly welcome as German Chancellor is expected to confront his unfulfilled promise of a 'Bar Ilan 2' speech.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu landed yesterday in Berlin, where he is due for a possibly tense meeting with his German counterpart Angela Merkel. The chancellor, who will host Netanyahu for lunch in her office today, will probably want to hear about the diplomatic initiative that Netanyahu promised her during a telephone conversation earlier this year.
In that talk, the prime minister vowed that he would deliver a "Bar Ilan 2" speech on the peace process in three weeks at most. Since then, over a month has gone by, and Netanyahu has shelved the idea….
