Biopsies of tumors are automatically taken and examined by pathologists to diagnose, treat and monitor cancers. But few laymen know that samples from oncology patients – taken with their permission – can benefit research by creating a biobank of cancerous tissue. A public tender that the Health Ministry issued recently chose Hadassah University Medical Center in Jerusalem’s Ein Kerem neighborhood, Rambam Medical Center in Haifa, Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center and Sheba Medical Center to collect and house such tissue samples.
