U.S. Senate confirms ex-Obama aide Daniel Shapiro as new ambassador to Israel

Shapiro is currently director for the Middle East and North Africa of the National Security Council after acting as Obama's adviser on the Middle East and Jewish community relations during Obama's presidential campaign.

The U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee confirmed Dan Shapiro's appointment as U.S. ambassador to Israel late last week.
During U.S. President Barack Obama's speech at the American Israel Public Affairs Committee convention last week, Obama turned to Shapiro, who was sitting in the front row next to Ambassador Michael Oren, and said he knew Shapiro "was going to be an outstanding ambassador to Israel."…
