Vienna museum denies Jewish owner sold Klimt piece under duress

Heirs of Jewish art collector claim he was forced to sell masterpiece for floor price. Museum: Purchase was made amicably with intervention of Austrian chancellor.

The Viennese museum that houses one of Gustav Klimt's greatest artworks says it has evidence that its previous Jewish owner sold it to the Austrian state in an amicable transaction, rather than too cheaply under duress….
