Home Front Command collecting gas masks to partially offset country's expected shortage; pilot program planned for 2012 to collect 50,000 masks issued to children who have since outgrown them, and issue new ones.
The Home Front Command is facing the delicate task of rounding up 20,000 gas masks issued to people who have since died, which could partially offset the country's expected shortage of gas masks.
Even if the government were to pay the country's two mask manufacturers immediately, they would still need about two years of working at full capacity to produce enough masks for the entire population….
