Der Hanauer Rechtsanwalt und Notar Leo Koref war ein angesehener Mann, denn er zählte zu den am Landgericht zugelassenen jüdischen Rechtsanwälten und soll seine Mandanten auch dann weiter vertreten haben, wenn ihnen das Zahlen der Anwaltsgebühren nicht mehr möglich war. Doch am 7. Juni 1933, kurz nach der Machtergreifung der Nationalsozialisten, wurde er aufgrund des „Gesetzes zur Wiederherstellung des Berufsbeamtentums“ als Notar entlassen. 1938 verlor er auch noch seine Zulassung als Anwalt. Der Jüdische Weltkongress (WJC) ist besorgt über die steigende Zahl antisemitischer Vorfälle in Deutschland. Die Bundesregierung habe ein bewundernswertes Engagement zur Bekämpfung von Antisemitismus bewiesen, sagte WJC-Präsident Ronald Lauder. Als Beispiel nannte er die Ernennung von Felix Klein zum ersten Regierungsbeauftragten für die jüdische Gemeinschaft. Dennoch müsse Deutschland sich noch mehr bemühen, um den „stetigen Anstieg gewalttätiger Vorfälle und Belästigungen zu stoppen und sicherzustellen, dass sich die deutschen Juden weiter sicher und wertgeschätzt fühlen“….
MEINUNG:
Flüchtlinge in sechster Generation
Rund um das Heilige Land gehen die Uhren anders, und das schon aus Prinzip. Auch und vor allem der Umgang mit Flucht und Migration folgt in dieser Gegend etwas unkonventionelleren Gesetzen, wie ein Blick zurück in die 40er-Jahre nahelegt. In Europa beispielsweise zählte man 1945 rund 40 Millionen Menschen, die im Zuge des Zweiten Weltkriegs aus ihrer Heimat geflohen waren. Diese Flüchtlingskrise zu bewältigen, war ein Mammutprojekt, das sich bis weit in die 50er-Jahre hinein erstreckte. Heute wiederum beläuft sich die Zahl der zu versorgenden Weltkriegsflüchtlinge auf null. Lediglich ein paar Landsmannschaften fordern noch heute die Lösungen von vorgestern….

„Wir werden dem Iran nicht erlauben, sich militärisch in Syrien zu etablieren.“ So lautet seit Monaten Benjamin Netanyahus Mantra. Die Präsenz der Mullahs in unmittelbarer Nachbarschaft zu Israel sei zu „einer existentielle Bedrohung“ geworden, erklärte der israelische Ministerpräsident mehrfach. Denn längst war das Mullah-Regime neben Russland nicht nur zum wichtigsten Alliierten des syrischen Diktators Bashar al-Assad in seinem nunmehr über sieben Jahre anhaltenden Krieg gegen die eigene Bevölkerung mutiert. Vielmehr möchte der Iran nun die Ernte für sein militärisches Engagement in dem Konflikt einfahren: die Bildung einer Einflusssphäre, die vom persischen Golf bis an die Mittelmeerküste reicht, gerne auch „schiitischer Halbmond“ genannt. Iranische Truppen unmittelbar an der israelischen Grenze – das kann Israel nicht so einfach hinnehmen. Schließlich bereiteten die Aktivitäten der schiitischen Hisbollah-Miliz im Libanon, die von Teheran massivst in der Vergangenheit aufgerüstet wurde, schon genug Kopfzerbrechen….

Elul dient der Vorbereitung auf das Neujahrsfest am 1. Tischri (Tischri ist der Name des ersten Monats im jüdischen Kalender). Im Elul wird an jeden Morgen bei der Andacht in der Synagoge der Schofar geblasen, um daran zu erinnern, dass mit dem neuen Jahr die gewaltigsten Tage im jüdischen Kalender naherücken. Am 10. Unter diesem Waffenstillstand würden auch die Feuerdrachen und Ballons fallen. Weiter sagte er: „Wir befinden uns mitten in einer Kampagne gegen den Terror aus Gaza. Diese bringt auch einen Schlagabtausch mit sich der nicht auf einen Schlag beendet werden wird. Unsere Forderung ist klar – ein vollständiger Waffenstillstand. Mit weniger werde wir uns nicht zufriedengeben.“ „Bis jetzt haben wir hunderte von militärischen Zielen der Hamas zerstört, und in jeder Runde verlangt die israelische Armee einen höheren Preis. Flotilla aus Gaza
Eine aus um die 40 Booten bestehende Flotilla hat am Samstag versucht, vom Hafen in Gaza aus die Seegrenze zu Israel in der Nähe des Zikim Strandes zu erreichen. Sie war als ein Teil der sogenannten „Marsch der Heimkehr“ – Kampagne organisiert worden. Die Organisatoren der Flotilla sagten, dass sie eine Botschaft an alle palästinensischen Fraktionen übermitteln wollten. „Wir werden keiner Lösung zustimmen, die nicht die Aufhebung der Seeblockade beinhaltet“, erklärten sie vor dem Auslaufen der Boote aus dem Hafen….

Der ultralinke Friedensaktivist Uri Avnery (94) wurde in kritischem Zustand ins Krankenhaus eingeliefert. Nach einem Bericht der Zeitung “Haaretz” soll er am Samstag vor fast einer Woche einen Schlaganfall erlitten haben und bewusstlos sein. Der Schriftsteller und ehemalige Knesset-Mitarbeiter, gilt seit 70 Jahren als Anwalt eines palästinensischen Staates, so Haaretz. Damals haben die heutigen Palästinenser sich jedoch noch als „Araber aus Palästina“ bezeichnet und noch nicht einmal einen eigenen Staat für sich beansprucht….

HAREDIM PETITION HIGH COURT OF JUSTICE TO END POLICE USE OF SKUNK SPRAY
Several Haredi residents of Jerusalem have petitioned the High Court of Justice to stop the police’s use of “skunk spray,” a foul-smelling chemical compound initially developed for use against Palestinian rioters. Last year the police started using the spray against fervently Orthodox rioters protesting the draft. According to Haredi news website Behadrei Haredim, the four haredi Orthodox plaintiffs have claimed that the use of skunk spray in dense urban neighborhoods constitutes collective punishment and a “grave violation of human rights”….

In a statement, released for the 17th anniversary of the attack on August 1, 2001, PMW said that Ahlam Tamimi, who planned the bombing, and Abdallah Barghouti, who built the bomb and is affiliated with Hamas, as well as the family of Izz al-Din Al-Masri, who perpetrated the attack, will have received around $294,332 by September 2018….

PA orders cancer drugs be sent to Gaza
After health officials in the Gaza Strip reported major shortages of chemotherapy medications, the Ramallah-based Palestinian Authority ordered that drugs needed to treat cancer be sent to the Strip, the official PA news site WAFA reported on Monday. Health officials in Gaza reported that 700 cancer patients, including 200 children, being treated at Gaza City’s Abdel al-Aziz al-Rantisi Hospital did not receive chemotherapy on Monday because of a shortage in medications needed to administer it….

In the past several weeks, Israel has prevented tens of thousands of balloons from being shipped to Gaza, out of concern they would be used to launch incendiary devices into Israel, according to a television report on Sunday. Three shipping containers destined for the coastal enclave and carrying tens of thousands of balloons were stopped at the Ashdod port and confiscated, Channel 10 reported. Southern Israel has experienced hundreds of fires as a result of incendiary kites and balloons flown over the border from Gaza in recent months. Over 7,000 acres of land have been burned, causing millions of shekels in damages, according to Israeli officials….

Australia has opened a new war memorial in memory of the hundreds of Jewish service members who have died for their country, the Brisbane Times reported. The cenotaph bearing the names of the fallen was dedicated at the National Jewish Memorial Centre in Canberra on Sunday in the presence of governor-general Sir Peter Cosgrove and Defense Force chief General Angus Campbell. According to the Times, around 9,000 Australian Jews have served in their country’s armed forces since the late 19th century with 341 of them dying in the line of duty….

Israel police roll out traffic drones to catch reckless drivers
After a successful two-month pilot program, Israeli traffic police have started using drones to film reckless drivers in the hope the footage can be used in prosecutions. The drones, which hover 100 meters above the road, are particularly effective at tracking drivers who stray over lane markers, tailgate, and commit dangerous driving offenses, Channel 10 news reported. However, the drones are as yet unable to track the speed of a vehicle or determine if the driver is using a cellphone. Cellphone use was the number one cause of car accidents in Israel in 2017….

Iran on Saturday announced it was taking back another portion of the 20 percent enriched uranium stockpile it handed over to Russia as part of the nuclear deal signed in 2015 with world powers in exchange for sanctions relief. Spokesman and vice-president of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization Behrouz Kamalvandi said the re-imposition of US sanctions following President Donald Trump’s exit in May from the accord necessitated returning the uranium for domestic needs. “If the fuel is sold to us, we do not need to produce it by ourselves,” Kamalvandi said, according to the semi-official Fars news agency….

Egyptian security forces kill 12 Islamist terrorists
Egypt’s official news agency said Sunday that security forces have killed at least 12 Islamist terrorists in a shootout in northern Sinai Peninsula. The report by MENA says the fighting erupted when forces raided a suspected terrorist hideout in the city of el-Arish. It says troops also dismantled two explosive devices and seized weapons during the raid. MENA didn’t say when the raid took place or whether any members of the security forces were killed or wounded. Egypt heavily restricts media access to the northern part of the Sinai Peninsula….
